Screen black and lines shifting unpredictably.
Screen black and lines shifting unpredictably.
Hello everyone,
I just joined Tom'sHardware community because it’s the right place for gaming, tech knowledge, and support. Thank you in advance for any advice.
I’m facing a tech issue that’s making my laptop display a black screen. The BIOS was recently updated and Windows is installed, but everything seems to work fine until I turn it on. Now the screen goes black—uncertain if it’s due to the BIOS update or a reinstallation. I’m unsure what to do before visiting a repair shop.
Additionally, there were times when I accessed the BIOS and the screen flickered with lines across the monitor. I tried again, but nothing changed; the black screen remains. The system sounds active, the battery appears fine, and the flashing color changed from orange to green. This suggests the issue isn’t related to power.
Could anyone provide guidance on what steps to take? I’m also creating a Windows USB installation now to reinstall Windows 10 Pro. My laptop is a ROG GL552V i7-6700HQ with 16GB RAM, 128GB M2 + 1TB HDD, and GTX 960M. Thank you very much for your time and help.
When updating your system, ensure you perform the installation without an internet connection, then add all necessary drivers yourself using an elevated command, such as right-clicking the installer and selecting Run as Administrator. For the offline setup, refer to this tutorial:

Hi Lutfij,
My screen is black, I attempted to press f2 to enter BIOS but it didn't work, even though I tried the commands from the video you shared. Yesterday I wasn't sure how I accessed the BIOS, but now I can't. I know the laptop functions properly, yet I can't reach the OS or BIOS to install a new Windows from USB. What might be happening?
