Scores dropped after using GTX1060 overclock on lower 3DMark tests
I recently upgraded my MSI GTX 1060 to factory overclocked at 1949 mHz and aimed to reach 2050. In tests, I haven’t seen any issues, but occasional crashes occurred. To avoid problems, I lowered it to 2000, which worked without crashes, though my FireStrike scores dropped compared to the original OC. Also, my TimeSpy results are better than before the OC, similar to the Heaven benchmark. Any thoughts on this? Thanks.
It could occur because when you open your card, the first step is to verify it with a stress test. During that test, your card may experience over voltage from your PSU or overheating, which can affect performance by lowering FPS or score. These factors might make the system unstable, potentially forcing a restart, causing freezing, or reducing overall performance as William pointed out.
