You need enough swap space for smooth performance and storage flexibility. With 40 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD, plus 8 GB RAM, aim for at least 2–3 GB of swap. Consider splitting the SSD into a dedicated games partition and a general use area, while keeping the HDD for bulk media. This setup should handle your gaming needs efficiently.

Uncertain about fitting several games plus your operating system onto a 40GB SSD... Swap space should be around 8 to 16GB.

Only two matches requiring 10GB of storage combined.

The SSD should ideally run the operating system itself, which speeds up game loading and overall performance.

It's pointless to install an SSD without mounting your operating system on it.

The operating system requires ample storage, around 20GB, to function properly.

That's not accurate, particularly in the Linux environment, since Linux runs efficiently even on SSDs. Coming from someone who often freezes Explorer.exe on Windows, I find the 40GB setup to be a tight situation when trying to create separate partitions.

It could get a bit tight, but it should be fine.

That’s what the theory suggests, but it’s hard to predict future changes or how much data you’ll store. It might make sense to install the full 40GB directly into root, with 16GB available on the HDD for swap, and the remaining space used for other purposes. This seems like a secure approach for me.
