Hey there! I'm just starting out with gaming and recently bought a new laptop. I began playing CS:GO, which is really fun and addictive. I discovered I could unlock a Karambit Doppler knife, currently valued around $600 on Steam. I was quite surprised until a stranger approached me. He offered to buy any skin from the OPSkins website and trade it for my knife. Thinking he was trustworthy, I gave him mine, hoping he'd buy the skins first. But he blocked me after only a few minutes, claiming he had scammed others before. I assumed he was just a nice person. I waited a while, expecting a trade, but he never followed through. I later found out he's from Croatia and has made over $15,000 in scams there—serious money! In Croatia, such actions can lead to fines or even jail time. I considered reporting him to the police, but since it's virtual property, I thought they wouldn't act. I reported him on Steam and shared some evidence. Do you have any advice on what to do next? Thanks for your help!

People should really think more when they do trades with items worth a lot.. Always do a trade, you never, ever give them your item without them giving you their stuff. That's quite a common scam that he got you with. Since Valve no longer compensates people after getting scammed, there's literally nothing you can do. He's probably already traded it a few times so that you won't be able to find it. Sorry.

The police could take action. The best solution is to discover his real identity online if possible and reach out to nearby relatives—they often help. If that’s not an option, just wait for Steam support responses, but remember the buyer usually goes first in trades, not the seller. I hope you get your knife back and I’m really envious of you. Or at least you used to be!

It seems like you're questioning the situation and looking for more scam tactics to stay alert. Let's keep an eye out for anything suspicious.

Complaint accepted. Only deal in CSGO unless it's rare, then reach out to sources. That’s the rule.

Seriously, if you can gather personal details about him and file a report, there’s a real chance to act. However, the odds are slim. It’s wiser to handle the situation yourself.

I don't really know anyone because a lot of folks online have told me they didn't want the police involved, and they ended up getting criticized!
