Hello, I’m considering switching from Windows 7 to Windows 8. Should I format my hard drive before installing Windows? Also, I’m using a pirated copy of Windows 7 that my cousin installed for me, thinking it was legitimate. I only found out it was pirated recently and would like a genuine version. Thank you for your help!

Not completely accurate. When setting up the drive, you can select formatting options, though Windows doesn’t automatically handle this during installation. Concerning the issue... It seems Windows 7 and Windows 8 employ distinct methods for HDD formatting, meaning you’ll likely need to format it yourself. Otherwise, the new OS won’t install properly. Windows 8 requires a Windows Boot Manager and will prompt for an unallocated space on the drive.

I believed the installation process formats the drive using Windows before it actually sets up. Sorry about that.

Thank you for your feedback. Would it be possible to automatically transfer the new, formatted drive to install all previous programs without manual setup? Additionally, can I use the same Windows 8 license on both my laptop and desktop?

No, you'll need to reinstall all the programs. If you have important save files, back them up and restore them in the correct location after installation. The same product key can't be used on multiple computers. If you're not ready to spend money, there are two reliable options that work permanently and aren't tied to KMS. Let me know if you want assistance with the setup process.
