Hey there, I see you're having some issues with your Samsung Evo850 drives on your Asus Maximus VIII Ranger. The Windows 7 installer isn't recognizing them properly, even after trying different setups like USB drives with RAID and SATA support. You also attempted formatting the SSDs using gparted in Ubuntu without success. Could you share more details about the error messages or any specific steps that didn’t work? I’m here to help!

On Windows 7, you might require specific RAID drivers. I faced issues with X79 and AM3 builds—disconnect other drives and check for non-compatible drivers in the RAID folder. If your motherboard has different storage controllers, test both versions. Windows 10 handles drivers automatically, so a Win7 key should work with it.

Windows 7 isn’t detecting my USB drives at all. That means I can’t provide the necessary drivers. I was considering switching to a separate HDD connected to the same PC, updating to Windows 10, copying the key, and then reinstalling on SSDs. But this sounds extremely complicated.

To wrap up the discussion... The issue wasn't the SSD, it was the chipset. The Z170 chipset caused problems with Windows 7 or the other way around. After installing Windows 10 without issues, I downgraded to Windows 7.
