Hello, welcome! Your setup looks good so far. Since your Windows OS is already installed, you might want to check the BIOS settings for any changes that could affect device recognition. Make sure your system is properly configured and try connecting the drives again. If nothing works, consider consulting the manufacturer’s support or a tech professional. No need to repopulate the case unless you're certain it's safe.

The top PCIe port on your motherboard won’t function without purchasing an 11th generation CPU. The reason lies in the number of PCIe lanes: 10th generation Intel chips provide 16 lanes, all directed to the main GPU PCIe slot. In contrast, 11th generation CPUs offer 20 lanes—16 for the GPU and 4 for an M.2 slot on the motherboard. Because 10th gen processors lack sufficient lanes, the connection remains unconnected and the port stays inactive.

Does imply uncertainty about compatibility, though the attached diagram indicates it's a Gen 3 port.

That specific M.2 slot will not work unless you have an 11th gen CPU installed. There is nothing you can do about that if you have a 10th gen CPU. But the other slots, which go through your motherboard's chipset, will.

I located the setting in BIOS. For those purchasing Asus Z590 Hero, navigating to BIOS -> Advanced -> Advanced Options -> Onboard Devices Configuration -> scroll down -> CPU PCIe Configuration Mode should work. PCIEX16_1 + PCIEX16_2 +M.2_2 is functioning correctly. This should assist anyone buying the Z590. Screenshots included.
