Same quality and pace, but varying RAM capacities?
Same quality and pace, but varying RAM capacities?
You have 16GB of RAM in a 2x8 dual-channel configuration and are thinking about an upgrade. You're interested in purchasing a 16GB stick now and another later to keep space for future upgrades. Your main concern is whether you can combine the 16GB with your existing setup to reach a total of 32GB by matching brands and speeds. Also, just to clarify, this is your first time asking such a question.
I don’t think you’ll require more than 32GB overall before switching to DDR5. A 2x8 configuration would be ideal and would let you enjoy the benefits. If you add another stick, it would operate in single-channel mode, which could limit performance.
Thank you for your feedback. I plan to evaluate the 32GB option first to ensure it meets my rendering requirements before considering more memory.
Three sticks cause all to move together in one path, which means a performance drop unfortunately. For just gaming 16 gigabytes is sufficient at best. Unless your tasks require more than that.
