This game serves as an extension for Saints Row 4 but can be bought separately for $20. You don’t need the original game to enjoy it. I initially got it through a bundle for SR The Third, but waited about a year before installing it. It offers everything I hoped for in the GTA series without the annoying restrictions like changing clothes or appearance based on diet. If I were after a life simulator, I’d pick The Sims instead. The stories in the Saints Row games are wild, yet they add to the fun. Nothing better captures the spirit of gaming than doing impossible things just for enjoyment. The announcement video highlights their commitment to keeping the series entertaining and unpredictable. Switching the two main characters, Kinzie and Gat, to playable roles is a refreshing twist compared to the usual setup.

It's really let me down. I expected a much better outcome.

I doubt your idea of what's good. This matches perfectly with the wild moves they've taken since SR: The Third, and it seems just as entertaining. It clearly serves as a placeholder while they keep developing the next complete SR title. Yet they're handling it wisely by setting it at a price below a full game and ensuring you don't need to own the earlier version.
