Safe Temp For Overcloack?
Safe Temp For Overcloack?
I received an i7 4790k on an Asus z97-a with the cooler master hyper 212 evo for cooling.
I overclocked it to 4,6ghz using AI Suite III and the temperatures were
Idle: 25-35C, Load: 55-70C.
I’m curious if those temperatures were acceptable or if I should let the CPU unlock.
When the voltage increases to 1.3V during a game, is that normal?
P.S. Sometimes the clock speed spikes to 4ghz when closing or opening programs, then drops back down—is that typical?
Anhau shared his thoughts on the situation, mentioning that the temperatures are manageable and confirming the CPU is safe at 1.3V. He expressed concern about the lifespan impact of overclocking and asked if a 4-year lifespan is realistic, noting that if the CPU fails in three years, it would be disappointing. He concluded by reassuring that nothing major needs worrying about now.

Temps to 75C are OK.
You will be fine.
but is the idle temps ok and is 1,3 V safe for the cpu?
Yes, everything is ok. The oc decreases lifetime a bit, but not to a big extent. It's a good overclock
SkittishGaming replied with a reassuring tone.
Temps at 75C are acceptable. Everything seems fine. The idle temperatures are within range, and the 1.3V setting appears safe for the CPU. Overclocking is a good choice, though it will slightly reduce lifespan. The concern about CPU dying after three years is valid—if it lasts four years, it’s a positive sign.
