This server runs on a single-threaded setup, which is the main constraint. Because the clock speeds are comparable, boosting won’t cause major issues. I’ll likely opt for a more recent machine, such as a refurbished desktop with a 4th generation i5 or i7.

I haven't invested any money yet, so I'm avoiding spending a lot on additional components. A completely new setup isn't really the focus here.

We're just adding players until performance slows down. Aim for six or fewer. I caught your point, but I'm looking for something affordable. Maybe DDR3 would work since I already own one.

Well... Are you thinking about running this without a graphics card? If yes, any PCIe card would work fine. For an MC server, graphics aren't necessary at all. Yes, you should. The i3-530 will suffice. You'll get similar single-threaded speed with the i5-680 versus the i7-860, and it uses less power. MC servers mainly handle one thread tasks (the 680 can go up to 3.867 GHz, while the 860 caps at 3.467 GHz). Plus, you won't need a GPU as long as your motherboard supports video output.
