I need powerline adapters since Wi-Fi 2.4GHz isn’t working well. Parents prefer direct Ethernet, but my router is in the basement and my PC is on the top floor, so I’m using these adapters. They recommended the Netgear Powerline 1000 and a Cat 5a cable. I just wanted to confirm if it’s necessary to connect them to the same electrical circuit. Given my house was built in 1990, I assume it shouldn’t be a major problem, though it might still be worth checking.

Don’t need to be connected to the same circuit, though for optimal performance the circuits should share the same phase.

It assists but isn't essential. I've heard someone mention you could connect to the internet through another home's powerline unit with matching encryption, and the signal can travel quite far—it seems possible!
