The processor needs to match the same connector type. This might seem unclear since the latest Intel consumer socket (LGA 1151) is divided into two versions: LGA 1151 (V1) for CPUs from the 6th and 7th generation on the 100/200 series, and LGA 1151 (V2) for CPUs from the 8th and 9th generation on the 300 series.
