Hey there! I just got a new PC and I'm still getting the hang of everything. I tried to figure out how to ask my question but didn’t know the best way. I’m curious if using the same Corsair Vengeance RGB PRO DDR4 3200MHz 2x8 sticks will work just fine. I’m not sure about dual or quad channels—do they stay as dual and pair up, or do they switch to quad when there are four sticks? I’ve got the specs ready if you need them. Mobo: ASUS ROG Strix B450-F, CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 3800X. After installing CPU-Z, my RAM speed is at 1066.4MHz. Can I upgrade to higher XMP profiles in BIOS safely? Also, will I need to adjust anything again after adding another pair of 2x8 sticks? So far everything seems normal. Any tips or advice would be super helpful!

If they match exactly, the chances are high they’ll function properly. The RAM is operating at the standard DDr4 frequency of 2133MHZ. Attempt to start with XMP settings. If that fails, we’ll assist you in diagnosing the issue!

For consumer CPUs, memory options are limited to single or double channel configurations. Adding more than two sticks won't affect performance.

Generally, if you pair two of the same kit together, it should work. It's not 100% certain, as they haven't been validated together, but I wouldn't worry too much about that. Dual and quad channel is less to do with the RAM itself and more about the CPU (or really, the memory controller on the CPU) and the motherboard. There's nothing special about RAM that makes it dual or quad channel, it's down to the board and CPU to support dual/quad (or triple, in rare cases) channel support. In your case, the CPU and motherboard do not support quad channel, so even with 4 DIMMS, they'll continue to operate in dual channel mode, with 2 DIMMS in each channel. Yes, you can change your XMP profile to 3200MHz to get the RAM running at full speed. CPU-Z will show the RAM's actual speed though, which would be 1600MHz in the case of your RAM. This is due to the "DDR" part of DDR4, which stands for Double Data Rate. This means that the memory performs two operations per clock cycle, which makes the clock speed effectively 1600MHz x2, or 3200MHz.

I’m still figuring out if I should test stability after updating the profiles. From what I understand, they’re meant to prevent mistakes compared to manual tuning. When I switch profiles, do I need to tweak my CPU settings for optimal performance? I’m not sure these are complicated, but I’d rather wait for a response before making any changes. Thanks for clarifying!

I recommend performing a memory test like memtest for roughly an hour to ensure complete stability. Regarding the CPU, FLCK might be relevant, but @TofuHaroto would provide more insight on this topic.

Use memtest86 and OCCT to confirm stability. FCLK will adjust itself automatically. If instability persists, apply necessary fixes. Edited June 30, 2020 by TofuHaroto

Thanks everyone for your quick responses! I'm planning to update the XMP profile and perform both memtest86 and OCCT afterward. If any issues arise, I'll follow up again. Regarding the stress tests, do you have a preferred sequence for running them?
