Considering a first build, I’m aiming to enjoy high settings at 1080p with solid performance. An i5-1060K or Ryzen 5 3600x seems like a solid pick—no overclocking needed and manageable for a new setup. For the motherboard, go with an affordable yet reliable option like the ASUS PRIME B550 or MSI MEG, both supporting decent gaming performance.

Intel 9900k performance isn't great, and AMD is not doing well.
Either option works well, but the 10600k shines when paired with a z490 and OC enabled. You can achieve top-tier gaming performance at a fairly mid-range cost. Ryzen offers a plug-and-play experience, delivering solid results right out of the box with limited room for customization—ideal for those who enjoy tweaking but don’t have much time or budget. It’s best suited for enthusiasts who value performance and are willing to invest in higher-end components. The 3600 is my go-to choice if you’re looking for value, as most buyers find it an excellent all-around deal.
