Is the Ryzen 9 9950X still a powerful choice for a workstation? You're wondering if upgrading in 2027 will be smooth, especially since rumors suggest AM6 might arrive then. For heavy tasks like 3D rendering, ML, video editing, and multitasking, you're considering an Intel CPU instead. You're aiming for a PC that lasts 6-7 years and want solid performance. What would you like to build? Is the 9 9950X still a solid option for work and gaming? Is it future-proof? Are there other better alternatives? I need this mainly for work and some intense gaming.

It is the top workstation CPU designed for heavy multithreading tasks. Ideal when you require precise performance for gaming and video editing. Most likely supports official updates until 2027. While it excels in gaming and intensive threading, some details are limited. It seems capable of handling demanding workloads well.

Price reference? Because your budget for the CPU is under $600.

Get the 9950x first, then the 9950x3D should cost around $700 USD. Avoid the 12c/24t version while gaming because it often causes CCD spillover problems. On the other hand, if 8c/16t isn't sufficient, spillover won't be an issue until we reach 10 to 12 core CCDs.
