Hello, I’m a passionate Minecraft player, enjoying everything from the game to speedrunning across multiple instances. I also compete in speedruns, which means I frequently play several copies of the game. Recently, I upgraded my setup to a Ryzen 9 5950X, which is popular among top speedrunners using either the 5900X or 5950X. The experience isn’t terrible, but running 1.8 for games like Bedwars feels inconsistent and disappointing. While it works, I’d expect better performance from such a powerful CPU. I noticed the Minecraft core wasn’t operating at its maximum speed, with the clock often running low and fluctuating. My goal is to boost that core to consistently over 4.5GHz. I’ve tried manual overclocking in Ryzen Master and the BIOS, but both became unstable above 4 GHz. Here are my current specs: Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite V2 (super robust VRMs), AMD Ryzen 9 5950X with 4x8GB 3000MHz RAM, G.Skill Trident Z RGB DDR4, and an Asus Dual GeForce RTX 2060S with 8GB. For cooling, I’m using a Cooler Master ML360R RGB, though it isn’t ideal—I might switch to a stronger air cooler like the Dark Rock Pro 4 if needed. My aim is around 1000–500 FPS for smoother motion blur, and I’m confident my setup has enough power; the issue is just getting it to run at full potential. Any advice would be invaluable.
It should have been a used model with 126/700k or Ryzen 7000. Mine is a single-core game, so I turned off email and chat to boost performance. 16 cores/thread still looks good. Follow the steps in BIOS, enter advanced mode, adjust clock ratio to 48, set core voltage manually at static, choose vcore around 1.4v. In CPU/VRM settings, turn off VCore loadline or use the lowest setting. In CPU Advanced, disable SMT mode and save. Exit BIOS expecting vcore near 1.32-1.35 under load.
For Minecraft on AM4, a 5800X3d is the top choice for gaming performance. If that isn’t possible, consider the advice from the person above.
You can view my power and boost settings here. If it's really a single-threaded setup, running a core or four at 5GHz for long periods shouldn't pose an issue. Don't worry about the temperatures—those only appear with the program I was using, and it's still summer.
I also own an i7 12700K, which works better with just one instance, but for speedrunning 15 it clearly outperforms the 5950X. Turning off hyper threading does provide some benefit, as you're correct. I'll attempt to set it to 4.8 in the BIOS manually; previous attempts were unstable. If I were only running a single instance at 1.8, I'd definitely consider a 9700K.
I just did that and did not expect the system to boot but it did, and this made a huge difference in Minecraft. Performance is still not as stable/high as I'd like, my 5600G can do better, but this is MUCH better than it was before! I legit wanna hug you! I still need to check whether this is stable for multi instancing
I wonder why people would try running 15 fast resets or something like that. If you end up in a trash world, you can reset multiple times until you find something better. It surprises me because some folks struggle with basic static overclocks, but static voltage stays consistent across platforms (except for certain clock control settings). That’s why they stick to all-core multi and fixed voltages—it’s straightforward. I like the idea of adjusting RAM voltage if you want a more stable setup. The 5600G is powerful, handling high frequencies and lots of data. If you pair it with a good board that supports 5000+ MHz, you might see solid performance. For tuning, hitting around 4800-5000 dual-core clocks could work better than the lower-end models some people test. I’m curious how it performs at 4.9 or 5GHz all-core if your cooler can handle it. Beyond that, boosting to 5GHz might be tough unless your cooling is top-notch. RAM overclocking under load (like 1.4V or 4.9 at ~1.35V) could still give decent results, but efficiency will drop quickly past 4.9. RAM OC is much simpler—usually under 4000 MHz or so—and heat/board limits are less of a concern. You might achieve something around 3800 with a 4x8 configuration; feel free to share a photo if you want to try it out.
I really didn't mean to push my system beyond its limits all the time. Even after doing that, the performance in Minecraft 1.8 still feels normal, which is unexpected. Could my graphics card be the issue? I bought a GTX Titan when 1.8 was released, so we'll find out! Yes, those 15 instances are for extreme resets. I plan to try MCSR ranked (single instance competitive speedrun) to check how it performs.
