Ryzen 7 5800X or Ryzen 9 5900X
my performance with the 5800x was quite poor, possibly due to personal factors but temperatures remained high even when using various coolers and I had a decent case. this led to frequent stutters in games because of thermal throttling. you could try undervolting, but for me it’s not something I enjoy adjusting. i’d prefer the 5900x instead, though if you’re strictly aiming for a gaming CPU, consider going for a 5800x3D or even a 7800X3D if possible.
I'm not entirely sure, but maybe someone who has used both should share their thoughts.
My 58X3D feels much better than my 5900X. Since I keep it well-tuned, the 5900X actually draws around 155 watts under heavy load. A regular 5900X is pretty straightforward to cool with a decent heatsink. The 58X3D works well too, especially with a good heatsink. On the FC140 I can keep a tuned 58X3D running without any fans on the heatsink, and still push the 5900X up to about 180 watts with the same setup. It does get warm, though—160 watts is a more realistic number. Overall, it’s still a semi-passive setup. Edit: A completely passive build sounds too silent.
