I was thinking about checking my setup earlier, but I didn’t realize how important RAM speed really is. It turned out to be more complex than I thought. I assembled a system assuming quicker RAM would let the CPU run faster. That’s why I bought four 4400MHz sticks. Unfortunately, I couldn’t push it past 2133MHz. I saw the same issue elsewhere online. I’m getting confused by all the numbers and voltages, and I’ve had to reset the BIOS multiple times because it didn’t work right. Now I know I can’t hit the full 4400MHz. If anyone could help bring it up to at least 3200 or 3800, I’d really appreciate it. Have you explored XMP/DOCP settings? If not, consider doing so. If it fails, your CPU's IMC or motherboard layout might be limiting performance. Turn on XMP/DOCP and lower RAM speed to around 4000, keeping other settings unchanged. This could potentially help. If that doesn't work, try 3800. Additionally, there appears to be a direct fclock adjustment for Ryzen processors—though I'm not very familiar with the details. At this stage, let's check if you can achieve "normal fast" speeds instead of extremely high rates.
I reached out to LIGISTX and suedseefrucht. Previously, I used DOCP but had to adjust the settings myself. At 3800 it crashed twice before restarting, which is why I’m satisfied now.
Several elements are involved here. High speeds like 4400Mhz are difficult to achieve. Not every motherboard and CPU pairing can manage that, and even then problems may arise. For tasks exceeding 4000Mhz, make sure the DIMMs match your motherboard’s specifications—otherwise it could cause issues. Additionally, these clock rates can be problematic with Ryzen processors. The chip is built from chiplets with separate core groups, and communication between them uses AMD’s Infinity Fabric, which operates at its own frequency called FCLK. Ryzen performs best when FCLK aligns perfectly with RAM speed—typically half the data rate. In practice, 4400Mhz translates to around 2200Mhz, meaning FCLK should also be 2200Mhz. But the standard limit is 1800Mhz, and even higher (up to 1900Mhz or more) is rare and risky. If RAM speeds don’t match FCLK, performance drops to half. Therefore, for Ryzen CPUs, anything above roughly 3800MHz tends to be less efficient than slower RAM options.
Adjusting the speed settings can help boost performance. Cl16 at lower speeds often works well. Ryzen thrives on quick response times.
