Ryzen 7 3700X paired with MSI B450 Tomahawk Max setup
Hello, your plan sounds feasible. The B450 Tomahawk MAX supports Ryzen 3 generation right out of the box, so pairing it with a Ryzen 7 3700X makes sense. Performance loss against a low-end X570 MB is unlikely, especially if you're already on a budget and prefer reliability over maximum specs. The price gap between the Ryzen 5 3600X and 7 should be minimal, making the 7 a solid choice for your setup.
The main change will be the complete removal of PCIe 4.0 support along with its associated features. However, overall performance differences are unlikely to be noticeable. It’s advisable to read the manual for the board since MSI provides clear explanations about PCIe lane behavior across different generations. From a quick check, there don’t appear to be any major problems, particularly regarding out-of-box compatibility.
Great setup sounds solid! Everything looks compatible based on the specs you shared. Just keep an eye on cooling and power delivery, especially with the high-end components. No major issues expected.
Is it only for gaming? Then perhaps lowering your budget to the 3600 and investing a bit more in the GPU would help. The RX570 will always fall behind the 3700X.
I already have RX570 installed on my old system... now I just need to upgrade the remaining parts, especially since it's mainly for gaming.
I'm not too convinced, except for the fact that Kingston didn't seem to get along with my old 2200G. It kept crashing and showing BSODs on my friend's Ryzen 1700 during testing. That’s probably the main issue I have, maybe just bad luck.
