Today I put my new Ryzen 7 3700x on my MSI B350 PC mate board with the BQ Dark Rock 4 cooler. After some issues during installation, everything works now except for a bit of coil whine and temperature changes. The whine isn’t too much because I use headphones, but the temps are odd. When browsing Chrome, they spike from 40 to 55 degrees and jump about three degrees in just one second. While playing R6, they stayed steady at a constant 70 degrees—seems fine. In LoL, temps went up to 60 then down to 70 and back again. What’s going on? How can I fix it? Should I be concerned or accept it? Also, I see Ryzen Master and Afterburner showing different readings—whose do you trust?
According to what I’ve heard, Ryzen 2 units sometimes perform odd instant auto-overclocking behavior. This might explain why they struggle with stable performance. It seems like the chip is already running at a high level from the start. They likely briefly boost speed and then shut it down again. In my opinion, this is pretty typical for the processor. I don’t own one myself, but I’ve seen these discussions online. The other point I’m unsure about remains unclear to me.
It's typical for your CPU to increase to a fast state when handling tasks, then return to a lower speed afterward. This behavior occurs with applications such as Chrome and background processes. You don't need to be concerned.
