Hello! Your plan to switch to the AMD Ryzen 9 5950X and Asus ROG Crosshair VIII Hero ATX motherboard is interesting. Regarding the ASUS HYPER M.2 X16 card, it should work in the second X16 slot since the GPU will be installed first. You can find more details here: https://www.asus.com/us/Motherboards-Com...EN-4-CARD/

I understand that point, though there are a few details to clarify. I own cards with my 3700X and X470, have a second PCIe slot at x8, which limits me to just two M.2 drives. Also, I’m unsure if the ASUS board can handle x4x4x4x4 bifurcation.

The second x16 position is typically very close to x8 physically. The X570 isn't ideal for storing numerous M.2 drives.

This was my concern about threadripper. For threadripper I envision this configuration: AMD Threadripper 3960X 3.8 GHz 24-core processor, Asus ROG Strix TRX40-E gaming ATX motherboard, and I think the TRX40 offers better performance, yes?
