Ryzen 5800x getting trapped in BOSD cycle
I upgraded my CPU and motherboard to Ryzen 5800x with an Aorus B450 Elite a few days back. After finishing the installation and turning on the PC, I encountered a blue screen, unplugged the power cable, and restarted. It functioned properly once again. When I put it to sleep and woke up the next day, everything worked fine. After a restart, I fell into another BOSD loop, repeatedly disconnecting the power cable before eventually getting back online. Initially, I suspected Windows was the issue since I hadn’t performed a clean install after the upgrade. By the third day, the loop intensified, requiring over ten attempts to reach Windows. Eventually, I chose to reinstall Windows using the built-in reset feature on Windows 10. As soon as the PC restarted for the installation, it triggered a blue screen and canceled the process. After that, I removed the main drive and connected just an empty drive plus a memory stick, but the BOSD loop persisted. The strange thing was that once I finally booted into Windows, everything operated perfectly—no shutdowns or loops.
It's wise to reset the BIOS after swapping CPUs. Remove the PC, take out the CMOS battery, keep the power button pressed for 15 seconds, then reinstall the battery and power on again. If this doesn't work, consider updating the BIOS or checking if the CPU is faulty.
I swapped out my motherboard and it came with the standard BIOS setup. Also performed a BIOS reset using the CMOS battery.
The manual provides thorough guidance, and I believe Gigabyte also included instructions for this process.
When it intermittently functions but stops unexpectedly, the problem is likely software-related rather than hardware. A bent pin would have made operation impossible or caused severe instability from the start. Your setup doesn’t appear to be faulty, though BIOS updates can sometimes behave oddly—especially on newer Intel models where high memory speeds in certain settings lead to fluctuating stability after reboots.
