Hey everyone, my brother has a Ryzen 7 5800X3D and he's seeing temperatures stuck at 90°C during Cinebench tests. He's using a water cooler from Kraken X63, but the water temps stay below 30°C. After taking the cooler off to inspect the thermal paste, everything seemed fine, so he reapplied it. The pump is maxed out and the fans are working hard. When the test starts, the system jumps instantly to 90°C. His monitor shows the CPU core temp in the mid to high 80s across all cores. He's not sure if the CPU or the cooler is the issue, and he noticed a small core offset of -0.05V which helped a bit. He's also thinking about undervolting but isn't sure what to do next.

Those numbers are really high—5800X3D is tough to manage compared to other Ryzen models. Keep in mind that Cinebench is a made-up benchmark and doesn’t reflect real gameplay performance.

It highlights the CPU performance differently compared to typical real-world tests, but it does. The system launches at 90°C right away when you begin. This behavior hasn't been observed before.

Are you considering zen4? That’s typical for the 7000 chips, but we’re discussing zen 3 where temperatures should stay low to mid-80s with a 280mm radiator. If water temps aren’t rising as expected, does the pump not actually operate? I wouldn’t worry about undervolting OP—it can only improve performance by giving it more thermal and power headroom to run if it can (though it might not, but it still reduces heat buildup).

I hope I could be more like that. Early reviews mostly show extreme heat during stress tests on many air coolers and sub 360mm AIO units. This chip is very powerful, using a completely different approach compared to what Zen 3 focuses on.

My X3D operates smoothly without hitting 90°C in R23 or anything close to 80°C. I’d consider checking it out. When others claim they overheat, they’re usually mistaken—many coolers fall short, especially with AMD 7nm chips, including AIO and CLC models.
