I'm looking to purchase the ne 5600x. Right now the only seller I've found is a scalper, so I'm considering placing a pre-order. However, I'll need to ask my parents for some money. Do you have any experience or advice on: 1) Whether prices will remain consistent when the product releases, and 2) If there are typical quality problems with pre-ordered chips?
yes when more products are on the market, it's usually very close to the MSRP quality issues? no, but more mature silicon will technically overclock better. I do not recommend preordering a CPU on borrowed money. A CPU is not food, water, or shelter, and you definitely don't need it right now. I recommend waiting for the cheaper Ryzen 5 5600 instead, hopefully you'll have saved up more money.
More affordable than the scalper? He shouldn’t even be on your list. What are you really doing right now, and what will you do with this? If you’re only buying for gaming, look for a real way to make some cash—prices could drop soon, making it a smart move.
If your CPU is under six years old, I wouldn’t bother upgrading. Four years for the GPU, and building my first new PC in 8 years around a 5900x with an x570 Strix-E motherboard should keep me happy for another six years at least. Of course, I like staying informed about tech news and following developments, but running games at 200 FPS versus 55 isn’t really giving you more capability than before. It’s different when you’re earning money or limiting your education—those things create financial opportunities that open up new possibilities in life.
