9600X costs $175, which is a good deal. It's unclear if you noticed the latest price. 7600 is $170 and 7600X equals $189. Fresh comparison, same apples.

Absolutely, that's exactly what I meant: opt for a used 7600/7700 model. Avoid purchasing a brand-new 7600/7600x version. Also, if the new and old units are nearly identical in price, it raises concerns about the cost of the older chip. The newer unit seems reasonable not because it truly is, but since the seller you're comparing to won't accept any losses and offers it at a fair value.
