It's common for temperatures to rise between 45°C and 55°C during idle. Reaching 80°C while gaming suggests your stock cooler might not be sufficient. Consider upgrading for better performance.

80C performs well during continuous gaming sessions. Make sure the CPU temperatures don’t lead to throttling or reduced performance.

It appears many users face similar challenges with the 3000 series. Early adopters often encounter problems, but updates to BIOS, chipset, firmware, or drivers may resolve these issues.

It seems the stock is running cooler, but it really depends on your environment and airflow in the case. It might look a bit too low at first, but with some adjustments or a better cooling solution, you should be able to bring it down.

I experienced elevated idle temperatures on my 3600x yesterday. ~50°C on the desktop. Cinebench peak reached 71°C and Battlefield 5 lasted about 10 minutes at around 65°C. I’m using a Noctua NH-D15 cooler. Voltages appear to be higher than usual, around 1.43-1.45V. I also tried reapplying thermal paste, but it didn’t make a difference.

the included stock cooler is sufficient but compact, which causes temperatures to rise. Even the superior stock cooler that comes with the 3600x...while better and still adequate, falls short. I compared my 3600x with a budget $24 Thermaltake Contac Silent 12 and it significantly outperformed the stock unit. It reduced my temperatures by about 20°C during a Prime95 stress test. I was so impressed I left it running. I expect this cooler to match the performance of a Cooler Master Hyper 212: https://www.amazon.com/Thermaltake-Conta...145&sr=8-1 Another drawback was the stock cooler's noise level and loudness, which didn't suit my preferences. The Contac Silent 12 is much quieter.

Hey there! I visited the 3600 back in the 80s, but it didn’t work well for my CPU—couldn’t keep it at 4.2GHz. I swapped it out for a Corsair H100i Platinum, and now temperatures stay under 60°C while gaming. It’s not perfect, but it’s much better than the original cooler.

It looks quite accurate. I installed my setup last night using a 3800x with the NZXT Kraken x62. My temperatures are likely in the mid-40s at best. The main problem seems to be that the temperature fluctuates wildly—sometimes it drops to the low 40s, then suddenly the CPU spikes for no apparent reason, causing the temperature to jump up by about 20 degrees and the fans to spin hard. When I’m not gaming, staying around mid-70s is fine. I haven’t upgraded the BIOS on my motherboard or updated Windows at all, so I’ll tackle those today. With the stock cooler, 50°C idle should be acceptable. I’ve also heard some monitoring tools can force AMD CPUs to run at higher speeds, which might explain the elevated idle temps.

You're experiencing similar problems with your 3600 setup. You've applied quality thermal paste and used Be Quiet! Dark Rock 3 (non-pro). Temperatures stay around the 50s during idle and climb to about 80 under load. It's running on an X470 board. Your earlier setup (1600 + Asus B350 Strix) performed better, staying in the upper 60s at load. I have noticeably improved cooling with a Fractal Define Meshify C instead of the previous one, and I've upgraded the front fans. Yes, I'm confident in applying thermal paste correctly. It seems AMD might have some significant issues this time, not just inconsistent reporting like they did with the first generation. Additionally, the Ryzen 3000 isn't working on any Linux distros released this year.

Your temperature reading of 3600 is only slightly higher than your 1500x. Probably just a few degrees at most.
