Under $60 seems reasonable. [Note: This assumes the Zen+ 1600AF; the regular 1600 may struggle in many situations.] Consider a used Ryzen 5 3600 for a big improvement at a lower cost or a new 5600 for a major upgrade around $130. Edited January 31, 2023 by DonGirses

If "gaming" refers to Rocket League, Valorant, and similar titles, it's acceptable. If "gaming" denotes major AAA releases, it comes across as quite controversial.

It seems your I5 4690K isn't up to the challenge of high-end games anymore.

Single thread IPC likely reflects similar performance. 1600 offers more cores and threads (6/12 compared to 4/4), yet choosing games that gain from this without being overly limited by the chip’s overall slow speed is minimal.
