Ryzen 3rd generation equipped with B450 ITX design
Hey, I've checked the search feature and looked at the stickies, but it's not clear if any ITX boards come with Ryzen 3rd gen built-in. I've noticed many sites listing B450 boards as supporting both 1st and 2nd gen, while the maker claims 3rd gen too. People usually think the original stock will be updated with newer BIOS, but I don't want to waste money and end up with a faulty product. Buying back is tough right now because of the pandemic lockdowns and the current situation. Calling the store is hard due to holidays and COVID, so I'm looking for reliable ways to be sure. Can you tell me if updating the BIOS is possible without a CPU? Should I ask about compatibility with the 3000 series motherboard? Thanks ahead!
Generally, only certain mobos with a bios flash button or flashback feature can be updated without needing a CPU. Regarding support from the manufacturer, if the website or product page confirms it, they’ll likely provide updates. Otherwise, reaching out directly is probably the best approach. AMD also offers a second-generation CPU loaner program for BIOS updates if needed, and they have a dedicated page explaining the process.
MSI B450 ATX models and the Mortar can update their BIOS without using the CPU. MSI Max boards come with the latest generation built-in, though certain newer CPUs might still need a BIOS upgrade when using MAX boards. It's advisable to check for BIOS flashing support before purchasing. None of these options are compatible with iATX.
The only boards I’m certain support Zen2 natively are the MSI Max boards. Otherwise, you’ll likely need an older CPU to update the BIOS or rely on Bios Flashback, which only a few motherboards back then offered. It’s hard to confirm if the board includes an updated BIOS. You might reach out to the seller for clarification. Some X570 ITX boards are available, such as these links:

However, these tend to be quite pricey. You can view a comprehensive list here: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1...2112472504
Unfortunately, no B450 ITX boards come with the Bios Flashback feature.
I don't see any as far as I know, except for the possibility of purchasing X570, which can flash the BIOS without a CPU—though that's not the main point
Consider reaching out to the seller directly to inquire about updating the BIOS for Ryzen 3000 chips. Another option is contacting AMD, which may provide a "flash kit" containing a Ryzen Athlon 200g and heat sink. Once completed, return the kit after finishing the process. Since the Ryzen 3000 series has been available for some time, many B450 boards with outdated BIOS versions now ship with updated support, potentially eliminating the need for flashing altogether.
Consider reaching out to the seller, holding patience in case it sells out. If that fails, purchase one and see if it functions immediately. If neither option works, contact AMD or seek further help!
