I don't have personal experiences, but you can check recent tech review sites or forums for comparisons between the 3000 series and the 5800x3D.

The 3000 lineup is completely overshadowed by the 5000 series, let alone the 5800x3d. In my opinion, it’s a wasteful SKU priced at $449 when the 5900x is only $369.

I usually side with you. The 3d really shines even at 5900x, though it can be a bit steep. It depends on whether the benefits are worth it. I'm torn between 5900x and 5800x3d. I'll keep an eye on new CPUs. I'm planning to get a 5000 chip since I already have 64GB DDR4, but I'm also using an x470 and PCIe3 might restrict me if I move to the RTX 4000. Not sure what to do.

I compare the 5900X and 5800X3D to the 3900X and 10900K as a classic matchup: if you're mainly gaming at lower resolutions with a powerful graphics card, then the 5800X3D or 10900K was the superior pick, even though it costs more. For most everyday scenarios, which account for the majority of users, the 5900X and 3900X were the better options.
