Not every Cas 16 variant is the same. Zen2 appears to ignore nonQVL memory, but this doesn’t hold up here. I’m curious about the other three components in that Cas 16 setup. Memory developers have been misleading users with “Cas 16” products that are actually Cas20 or even Cas22. You might have come across some of these.
During testing, I used a 3700MHz chip and upgraded to a 3200MHz version, switching from a 16GHz to a 14GHz processor. That setup performed reliably.
I’ve struggled to avoid that RGB clutter. The current approach seems to focus on getting good memory without being too bulky or relying on basic color tricks. Perhaps invest in something and remove the plastic heat sink so it fits better with a solid air cooler. Updated: February 17, 2023 by Bombastinator
The RGB problem is noted (SFF build height matters) and back then they were £140 per kit. If I’d spent about £10 more, I could have chosen some used B-die kits—or even the 4000MHz Ballstix Max for £20 extra. For comparison, I went with a 2x16GB LPX for £55. I was expecting A-die to be inferior, but it should handle XMP speeds. There’s also a chance it might have been stored in a warehouse for a while and could be slightly out of spec (micron Rev.B or E).
