It seems uncertain whether you can fit a Ryzen 3 3200G on an MSI B350M PRO-VDH without BIOS updates. Let me know if you'd like more details!

The 3200g is zen, not zen2. It's possible. Motherboards sometimes don't support CPUs from after the board was created. Are you about to purchase a new board or has it been available for a while?

It seems most 350 boards aren't compatible without a BIOS update, right? However, you might be able to get a free boot kit from AMD if you need one.

You're planning to start from the ground up. Thanks for sharing the details—it's really useful. If you need a BIOS update to install that proc, you might want to consider downgrading your current setup to something simpler like a 2200G. I'll keep that extra cost in mind for future upgrades.

What about the 450 series boards? Would a BIOS update still be necessary? I'm unsure if AMD would send a boot kit here in the Philippines. Sorry for asking so many questions. This is my first build, and I'm not sure if the combination of board and CPU I chose would be suitable. I just need room for future upgrades. Also, I'm on a tight budget, which is why...

Certain B450 boards, particularly those marked “max,” come with drivers pre-installed for 3000 processors. Additional stickers on other boxes indicate “3000 desktop ready” or similar. These units typically lack a larger bios chip, and although they might include components for newer CPUs, they may not support older ones.

The components are almost the same. A 3200g version performs better on a 500-series board, but it doesn’t appear to be in stock.

As mentioned earlier, some B450 boards already include updated BIOS versions. In your situation, it might be better to choose a B350(M) paired with a 2200G combo. This way, you can upgrade later if needed, especially with new BIOS updates. I did this myself, though be aware that 2200/3200G models may struggle with newer games, particularly at higher settings. Still, they remain a solid budget choice. Unfortunately, the Ryzen platform isn’t as simple as one might hope, but it’s the most sensible option financially and in terms of performance.

The 300 series boards (excluding A320) accommodate all AM4 socket CPUs and should work with the upcoming 4000 series after a BIOS update. You only require a compatible BIOS to be installed before installing a new CPU. The architecture isn't a concern—anything from ZenQ123 works as long as the BIOS can identify the CPU model.
