I own an MSI Rx 5700xt Mech OC graphics card and a matching case. I'm currently using an older R5 2600 (in transition) alongside a new ASRock B450M/ACR2.0 with updated drivers. The GPU runs the latest drivers, and I've reinstalled them after a DDU setup. The main problem is extreme heat—temperatures hit around 100°C during Horizon Forbidden West. Even after lowering the graphics to low, it still reached 98°C. I tried undervolting using Adrenalin, set BIOS fans high, and adjusted curves, but the GPU kept getting hot. When I paused the game, it dropped to 90-95°C, then 720p with 1800f/950v still pushed it up to 90-95°C. At idle, it stays around 88°C on low usage. Playing Warframe and Destiny 2 caused similar spikes—sometimes 70°C at 60% load, other times 90°C with 80 FPS cap. The first game even hit 95°C but shut down after two minutes. CPU stayed cool at about 47°C during play, while GPU idled at 45°C or less.

I thought about reapplying the GPU and handling the heatsink installation carefully with a star layout for even cooling. My model is a 5700XT THICC III Ultra and I've faced issues with elevated hotspot temps before; this approach has helped. I also changed from the OC BIOS to the standard quiet BIOS, as it includes a switch for that. It's unclear if my MSI card supports one, but it might be worth verifying. Using hwinfo64 would give clearer insights into GPU temperatures, helping confirm if the hotspot is unusually high while overall temps stay normal.

I also ran a firmware test and achieved 88 degrees, and 110 degrees on the hotspot. Task Manager displays up to 99 degrees, though I also monitored usage via the graph at that moment and used hwinfo as well.

Inspect for debris beneath the fans and inside the heatsink. Perform reapplication if needed.

I believe they're doing it because it's a used GPU after all.

Reprogrammed and temperatures dropped from 100 to 65 and 73 on the hotspot. Thanks.
