Hey there! I’ve noticed some issues with my XFX RX 580. When the temperature hits around 82-83°C, the PC freezes and I have to restart. I lowered the voltage by 30% in Afterburner and tweaked the power curve, which stabilized things. Now I can run fans at 70% manually for hours without problems. But when the auto fan curve is used, it hits 80°C quickly and causes a black screen within seconds. I cleaned the card after heavy mining and replaced the thermal pads with CoolerMaster Mastergel Pro v2, but they still look dusty—just not crusty. The idle temps are between 50-55°C, and at 55°C the 0DB mode turns off until it warms up again. It seems the pads might be worn out. My specs are a Ryzen 3 3300X, 3.9GHz, 16GB RAM, 3400MHz, 450W, 80P Bronze. The PSU is a bit weak for this setup. I’m worried it could be the power supply or the paste job that’s gone wrong. If the card is fine and the problem is just from playing too hard, maybe I should replace the GPU instead. But right now I’m really struggling to keep it running smoothly without interruptions.
Do you have an extra power source available? You might connect it outside the enclosure and feed the GPU from the backup PSU. If the system performs well through benchmarks or games without problems, that could indicate a power supply issue. You could also bring your GPU to someone who uses a stronger PSU and check for any issues there. If they encounter problems, it’s likely the GPU itself is the problem.
