Hello, I've come across some discussions about Rust lagging, but nothing quite matches what I'm experiencing. My frame rate drops significantly, sometimes every few seconds, causing the game to freeze completely for a short time. It also slows down when moving around or picking up items. Loading times increase whether I'm in the server or teleporting. One day I played normally, then suddenly it started acting this way. A friend recently had the same issue on their console. My laptop has 16GB RAM and runs perfectly fine. My desktop also has 16GB or more of RAM. When I open Task Manager while playing, my FPS plummets and the HDD usage spikes to 100%. I've read that some people think the HDD might be acting as a paging file, which matches what Task Manager shows. I've tried disabling it without any results. A few suggestions were given for Steam settings before launch, but they didn't help. I was considering upgrading to 32GB RAM, but I'm puzzled why my desktop behaves differently than my laptop. Any advice would be appreciated.

Specs: Ryzen 7 2700X EVGA 2080 Super FTW3 Hybrid OC Asus Prime x570-p Patriot Viper 16GB 3600mHz CL17 (operating at 3200Mhz)
Storage: 2 Seagate 2TB HDD, WD Black SN750 500GB

Rust demands substantial memory when running at full capacity, especially with advanced configurations. It tends to strain your SSD by frequently moving game data between storage and RAM. With ample space, you should notice less delay. A 32GB setup would likely eliminate the lag, and DDR4 remains a cost-effective choice.

I thought about upgrading but wasn’t sure why it worked on a laptop with 16GB but not on my desktop.

Opt for more memory to boost performance. Rust demands significant RAM—aim for around 16+ GB, ideally 32 GB, and consider an SSD for faster access. SSDs work best with Rust due to their optimized speed. I’m not certain, but this setup should handle long-term use smoothly. For a budget option, go with a WD Blue or Black SSD; they’re reliable. Ensure your upload speed is at least 2 kbps or 2.5 kbps.
