Well, back in the day you kept your computer on all the time unless you needed it for a week, then you would shut it down. Now, about whether your new PC from October 24, 2024, is still running continuously—has changed with newer models? Please let me know.

Happy New Year!
If your system is stable and your power supply isn't too busy with components, then you should be fine to keep running your setup as needed. In the long term, it's actually good practice to shut down the system when it's not in use.

My home systems remain active around the clock, except during vacations or similar periods. When idle, power usage is extremely low. The main system, detailed in the Viper list in my profile, consumes roughly $40 per year for electricity during those idle hours. This expense allows me to have nightly unattended backups and updates. My small Beelink HTPC costs around $15 per year, also running continuously. I’ve never experienced any problems with them left on for more than ten years.

I recall a time when floppy disks were common. They advised keeping the PC running nonstop, as switching it on and off might harm the hardware.

Back in the day, people believed switching a device on or off could harm components because of heat changes. Also, older parts required more power. Nowadays, that's probably not a big issue. When not in use, I put it to sleep to save power, and waking it up takes just a few seconds.
