Hello everyone. I'm curious about the graphics configurations used on an Xbox One X compared to a personal computer. Are they typically set at medium, high, or ultra? I’ve noticed numerous videos online showcasing console performance against PC setups utilizing ultra settings, and I question whether the Xbox One X is realistically configured at that level. My goal is to construct a PC mirroring the specifications of the Xbox One X for my nephew’s enjoyment.

Considering the Xbox One X’s price of $500, it roughly matches the cost of a typical, everyday desktop computer. However, you could certainly acquire a more potent PC than what’s currently available for consoles within the $500-$600 range. The final price point ultimately hinges on your budget constraints.

For a long time, gaming consoles have employed sophisticated dynamic scaling techniques to simulate higher resolutions and texture details.

Furthermore, consider those outdated and inexpensive Jaguar processors they formerly employed. It's a blessing that the video game industry is now transitioning to current Zen 2 Ryzen processors.

I possess a few video games for both my personal computer and an Xbox One X. Running these titles at 1080p utilizes moderate graphics settings on the One X, but when scaling to 4K resolution, the console employs techniques that mimic 4K without delivering genuine 4K fidelity—a feature absent on PCs. Consequently, it performs even below medium settings as it’s not a genuine 4K display.

Honestly, I simply don't grasp why people find 4K gaming appealing. Achieving satisfactory performance at that resolution is difficult, even with a powerful computer that has cost several months’ worth of rent and food.

The amount of money spent on gaming varies greatly depending on your preferred games and household expenses—a month’s worth of rent and food can differ significantly from person to person. My computer is capable of displaying games at 4K with a frame rate of 60 frames per second using reasonable graphics settings (an RTX Super 2080), although I typically utilize it at 1440p with a refresh rate of 144Hz, as I enjoy playing first-person shooter games on my PC. I also play Gears 5 on a Xbox console at 4K HDR, which provides a superior experience compared to 1080p resolution and, despite not being true 4K, represents a noticeable improvement. Furthermore, it’s simpler for me to utilize my racing simulator in the living room when connected to the Xbox, taking advantage of its 4K display on a television—a truly pleasurable and smoothly running experience at 60 frames per second.

From my perspective, if you’re investing a significant sum – over $1,000 – in a premium desktop computer specifically for 4K gaming, you’re likely pursuing it for the incorrect motivations. Many of the most graphically intensive games simply won't deliver the promised 4K experience.

From my perspective, if you’re investing a substantial sum—over one thousand dollars—in a premium computer specifically for 4K gaming, you’re likely pursuing it for the incorrect motivation. 4K gaming frequently fails to deliver the expected performance in many graphically intensive games.

Unfortunately, that’s no longer accurate based on my personal testing. I am capable of achieving over 60 frames per second with virtually any title at a resolution of 4K, though I can’t do so when utilizing all available graphical settings. Nevertheless, the visuals remain remarkably impressive and surpass those of the Xbox One X. Furthermore, certain games that don’t demand instantaneous responses could genuinely benefit from 4K resolution due to their enhanced aesthetics. I believe 4K has a valuable role to play and will be suitable for particular gamers or specific game types. It’s fortunate that I am able to experiment with 4K, despite my primary preference being a 1440p display at 144Hz for competitive first-person shooter gaming using a keyboard and mouse.
