I recently purchased a second-hand Samsung Ativ GT-P8510 for my studies under the #studentbudget. I’m facing issues because of Windows RT 8.1 restrictions, which only permit apps from the Windows Store and lack essential programs like Chrome, Firefox, and Adobe Reader. Someone here, could you confirm if Windows 10 would be compatible with this device? I want to be sure before proceeding.
You can upgrade to Windows 10 with the Windows Media Creation Tool. The site allows generating install media for Windows 7, 8.1 and 10. It should also let you reinstall a full version of Windows 8.1 via the tool. Ensure you have backups of all your files before proceeding. This process will erase everything from the drive. https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help...tion-media
8.1 seems more suitable for the touch interface and offers better value when purchasing a key (check out Reddit or Kinguin OP).
I missed an important detail. My search shows challenges. The tablet uses an ARM processor with its own architecture, unlike standard Windows 8/8.1. Regular desktop programs won’t run directly; an emulator is needed, which isn’t ideal. The Windows RT 8.1 store has limited apps and no longer supports it. There’s also a Windows 10 IoT Core version that works on Raspberry Pi but turns off the touchscreen.
Reviewed multiple articles suggesting Win 10 could function on an ARM chip. If the current setup doesn’t work, consider what you might lose by attempting it. It might be worth trying Win 10 anyway.
Your system is powered by an ARM based CPU, and Windows 10 cannot run currently on those. Also, even if you wait, and assume you can even get Windows 10 for ARM (might be like Windows RT where only large OEMs have it), you have no guaranty that it will work on your system to any level due to what the CPU you have supports and not support. Microsoft aims that Windows 10 for ARM runs on a Snapdragon 835 or later, based on current information of what we know.
I'm planning to check if it works properly, okay? Right now I'm mainly using it for taking notes and Office apps are already installed. It's disappointing that the available options aren't very good and their support is fading. I'm hoping it can run on the processor, but if not, finding alternatives might not be worth the effort.
