Hello! I just set up a dual boot for my laptop a few days back. I have several virtual machines and need to reach them from both Ubuntu and Windows partitions. (I began with Windows.) Appreciate the help!

It seems you're using VirtualBox. Yes, that's correct! You've never dual booted before. In both Windows and Ubuntu, you can see the Windows drive while running Ubuntu, and vice versa. Using VDK or exporting an OVA file should make it work across platforms.

Yes, using an OVA file would consume your hard drive space, but it won't use any additional software or extra storage beyond what you already have.

Uncertain about this. Perhaps rebuilding the VM is better, using the identical virtual disk and VDK file you mentioned. Avoid if you're worried about storage.
