Running Task Manager significantly boosts my FPS in certain games.

I observed that running Task Manager increases my FPS in Warzone from around 80 to about 150. I also tested it in Cinebench R23. With Task Manager active, my score exceeds 9k points, but it drops to just over 5k when it's closed. I ran Malwarebytes and didn’t see anything. Anyone know if others experienced similar changes?

Are you sure no unusual activity occurred? Some resource leeching malware and trojans are designed to identify when the task manager or resource manager starts.

It seems like something is active in the background, smart enough to bypass your malware scan and either pause or stop itself when you click TM. If it’s not too annoying, a clean Windows install would be a good idea—remove everything and start over.

Launch the resource monitor and examine your running processes. Identify any that consume a large share of CPU. Gradually open and close the Task Manager to observe which tasks show substantial changes in CPU utilization.

I experienced identical issues with Warzone 2 and Hogwarts Legacy. GPU usage hovered near 60% with low FPS, but spiked to 90%+ in Task Manager and boosted performance by over 30 FPS. No malware detected. Anyone have suggestions? EDIT: Found a potential fix: Trojan.BitCoinMiner.COMSPECRST

Malwarebytes identified Trojan.BitCoinMiner.COMSPECRST, likely the issue. Editing it didn’t resolve the problem.

I don’t have the details of your problem, but I managed to fix it. It seems Windows Explorer is consuming too much CPU power. Just restarting the explorer when you turn on the computer usually resolves the issue. Now I’m trying to understand what causes it to fail each time you restart...
