Hello, I'm looking for advice on my gaming PC setup. I built it with help from a PC master who installed Windows. Later, I discovered the OS isn't original—it's a free version, not a genuine product sold online. After playing Warzone for two months, I received an unexpected shadowban. Do you know if using this version is acceptable, especially for multiplayer games? Should I purchase a license or pay for a proper key? Thanks!

You were prohibited for dishonest behavior, likely unrelated to Windows itself since they don’t ban operating system issues. It’s unclear where your Windows came from—make sure you downloaded it directly from the Microsoft site, as you can install it without a key during the trial phase with a few steps.

Activision and Blizzard have no interest in knowing the source of your Windows copy or its licensing details. (Even after Microsoft acquired them, it wasn’t like that until someone pointed it out.) You weren’t banned for anything.

Though I should think it would have happened faster than two months, it's also possible the board or other hardware was purchased used and the seller had a hardware ban. It's quite common for cheaters who get banned to dump their banned hardware off on unsuspecting buyers who then inherit the ban with the secondhand hardware. Not sure if that sort of problem can be corrected. Edited September 2, 2022 by An0maly_76 Revised, more info

I understand why folks discard their gear when restrictions come into play, though it probably wouldn’t have lasted that long. It seems more likely Op was using software he shouldn’t have, or Blizzard made an error—things like that do happen.

That's the thing, i can't think of any other reason to ban me... i was not cheating with my 0.70KD ratio )) About windows, master brought it in a flash drive and installed it, since i live in a 3rd world country, that Windows most likely was a copy of original of some kind idk, but if that's not a reason to ban me, idk what is, thank you for your response. That's some sort of a relief, thank you! i bought all my parts new, so that shouldn't be in issue)) well i have utorrent installed, and i use it, if that is a reason to ban me, then i will not buy their next game for 60$ to be banned for no reason, but maybe this windows copy has a program to prevent it from license activation or something... i looked in Event viewer and i saw this. Can this be a problem? thanks

Torrent is recognized for its association with piracy, isn't it? Perhaps that's the reason.

No real incentive at all. Should Blizzard or Microsoft prohibit its use, it would be a strong deterrent against engaging with them again.

Agreed on the point, yet with the recent moves from Microsoft, is it truly feasible? Reflect on this — they’ve pushed Edge, Cortana, and similar tools through aggressive Windows updates that reset and reinstate features you’ve turned off. The upgrade path to Windows 11 is designed to be so seamless that it often feels like a trap waiting to be triggered. It’s telling when you’re forced to push your product’s capabilities onto users repeatedly. I’ve had to turn off updates altogether, mainly because they consistently fail at delivering what they promise.
