Running Intel Core I9-9900K on HP Z370 Tampa 2 boardcard

Dear sirs, I seek your thoughts on whether to proceed with this project or hold off and purchase a new Z390 motherboard. Here’s my situation: I own a HP Omen 880 series case, a Gigabyte RTX 2070 Super, and an Artic 850 watt power supply. My cooler is a new Artic freezer Sport Air Cooler, and I’m using the original HP motherboard. My CPU is an i5-8400, which I recently upgraded to the Artic freezer Sport Duo Air Cooler in September. During Black Friday, I spotted the i9-9900k at a record low price and decided to buy it. Up until now, I’ve been buying everything during sales except for a 2TB Toshiba HDD, since my storage was limited to 250GB. I’ve been looking into the potential dangers of running this CPU on a Z370 chipset board, mainly overheating issues during overclocking. I came across an article suggesting that Intel’s core i9-9900k might still run fine on older boards, but I want solid advice without any bias. I just need to know if this is safe for me. I’m not a big Intel enthusiast, so it’s just about what works best for my setup. Additionally, the Omen case lacks an open back panel and doesn’t accommodate a full metal sheet with holes only designed for this board. Since my case is mini-ATX or UATX, I’m unsure what’s best. The system is built to recognize this CPU directly, and failing to include it in the BIOS will prevent it from functioning.

I doubt it. The 9900k might draw too much power and could be blacklisted in the BIOS. But the most dangerous action is deleting the board—based on my experience with HP, it will likely not boot and nothing will occur.

Thanks for your message. To clarify, I recently noticed Intel planning to release a new chipset for their upcoming CPU generation. I’m curious whether those who purchased a 10th generation processor will need to upgrade their motherboard to support the next version. It’s quite challenging to stay on top of these changes...

Asus has already provided BIOS updates, allowing their 10th Gen Z490 boards to function with the 11th Gen CPUs. Purchasing pre-built systems from firms such as HP makes it less likely for them to issue BIOS updates to accommodate newer processors.

Checking the latest info, the i9 9900K works with the Tampa 2 motherboard.

I mentioned in my earlier comment that the system actually has built-in support for this new CPU. HP often allows certain processors through their BIOS settings, and missing one means it won’t function properly.
