I bought a Win Server 12 data center activation key for a home lab setup and am considering running virtual machines on one of my servers. I saw a video suggesting that a data center key allows unlimited VMs on a single server, but I want to know if using the same key works for activating those Win 12 DC VMs on the same device.

When launching a win server VM, I expect no problems with keys since you won’t have to purchase a new one. Microsoft may be somewhat demanding, but not excessively so, so it should function smoothly.

This essentially provides two operating system environments alongside the virtualization host, thanks to Windows Server Standard. The Datacenter component removes this restriction completely.
