Hi, I was considering upgrading my production PC, but the sudden price increases for DDR5 and DRAM NVME stopped me. So I’ll keep using my current setup and just replace the GPU and PSU.

Current build:
Mobo: MSI B450 Tomohawk Max
CPU: Ryzen 7 2700X
GPU: MSI Inspire 3X OC RTX 5080
RAM: 24GB 3200mhz DDR4
SSD: Samsung 990 PRO 2TB (know it’s Gen 4 on a Gen 2 board)
Case: Ant Esports SX7
PSU: Cooler Master MWE 1050W V2 ATX 3.1
The GPU and PSU are brand new. I understand the potential bottleneck my CPU could cause, but I have no other choices. I can’t upgrade to another AM4 build and buy a new motherboard and CPU later when prices stabilize.
My question: I’ve attached some images. Could you confirm if the connection looks suitable for the GPU? I’m aware of the melting cable issue with these 5080-5090 cards.
The 600W 12V connector that comes with the PSU is specifically designed for 50 series cards and is securely inserted (I’ve checked it multiple times).
I haven’t played any games or started video editing yet.
Could you let me know if there’s any risk of damaging my GPU? I’ve put in a lot of effort for this card.

The connection appears to fit well with the GPU.
It seems the Melting Cable issue is common with these 5080-5090 cards.
Could there be any chance the GPU might melt?
You might not realize it, but users with fully seated connectors have also faced this problem.
The 600w 12v connector included with the PSU, designed for 50 series cards, is securely placed (verified multiple times).
Alright, you're going overboard a bit.
I've put in a lot of effort for that card.
That's why both the card and the PSU come with a warranty, unless you purchased them used.
The bottom fan placement doesn't seem important;

Given that the fan isn't drawing in much cooler outside air from the PSU area, maybe move it closer to the front of the room.

They are brand new, I've already registered the GPU on the MSI website and connected it to the PSU. I plan to shift the bottom fan slightly to the right.

Attractive build design. If there are any CPU limitations, they could help minimize the chance of your GPU power connection overheating, since it would restrict the power the graphics card draws.

Can you adjust the power setting in the system settings to 90% and check if the Nvidia App works properly?

You could try that if you wanted to. I'm not sure if it's really needed, though. I get your worry. I also have a 5080, which cost a lot, but it's been okay for a year now. I think I accept paying and hoping it works out.

Save those images and register the card immediately. Connection appears strong.

I've been using a 5080 for more than six months and everything is okay. No need to be concerned.
Where are you from?
A bios update will let you upgrade your CPU to a 5800Xt or whatever's available nearby. AM4 still works well in 2025-2026.
