I recently got an RTX 5080 to swap in for my 3080 and was really excited. But the installation went wrong fast. After setting up the GPU and using the 12VHPWR cable from my PSU (RM1000 Shift), it refused to work—only black screens appeared. I searched online and found someone mentioning that drivers must be downloaded first for a monitor like his ultrawide display. I tried connecting my PC to an old 1080p screen, which let me download the drivers successfully. But once I switched back to my original 1080p monitor, the same problem persisted—no output. I rebooted and power-cycled, but nothing changed. I even swapped the cable with the included splitter and tried reseating the GPU, but still no signal. The splitter worked on my 1080p screen, so I figured it was the monitor issue. Then I connected it to my ultrawide display, which finally functioned properly. I played games for two hours, ran benchmarks, checked resolution performance, and everything seemed normal. After a reboot, however, the GPU stopped working entirely on both screens. I’ve tried different cables, ports, and even changed RAM, but nothing resolved it. My 3080 still performs perfectly. What I’m experiencing is confusing—specific steps helped, yet the issue resets.
RTX 5080 and 5090 models are facing many Black Screen problems, and Nvidia is looking into it. There are several discussions on Reddit where users report similar issues. Checking online and doing some research might help you discover a solution until Nvidia releases an update.
