The key distinction lies in their design and capabilities. The Netgear router is a consumer-grade device focused on ease of use and broad compatibility, while the Mikrotik router offers more advanced features for network management and customization. Since your ISP installed Wi-Fi using the Mikrotik router, it likely provides better control over wireless settings and performance. For scenarios needing flexibility or higher security, Mikrotik is preferable; for simple home networks, Netgear suffices.

They usually don’t provide top-notch gear. They rely on standard stock so repairs and settings stay consistent. Without checking the real specifications of both items, it’s probably safer to reinstall your network equipment.

Hey Emusun, just a note about the photo you mentioned—it was something I found at work for a shot.

They provided you with an older MikroTik model. Those external antennas aren't very useful.

I was given the MikroTik 951UI 2Hnd model and researched a bit myself. When I asked why my ISP chose this router, they explained it’s because they can run scripts on it. Besides that, the interface isn’t just average hardware—there are some YouTube videos showing it’s quite different from other routers. What I’m trying to understand is exactly what makes it stand out. If you think it’s so great, you already know a bit about it. Just let me know what you want to be clear on.
