I'm considering swapping my current hEX S for a new build, aiming to create something rather than purchase. This aligns with my field or hobby interests. Eventually, I'll require multiple SFP+ units for testing and other devices. I already have a CSS326 after the hEX S to support 10Gb speeds, and it functions properly. It will remain within the network. I plan to use the first-gen LGA 2011 platform, with dual CPUs being straightforward. The main uncertainty is whether RouterOS depends more on clock speed or core count, or if those factors don't really matter. Regarding SFP+ hardware, I'm a big supporter of 10GTek and might opt for transceivers from them. For network interfaces, I've heard mixed feedback about Intel's 10Gb support in RouterOSv6, with some performance concerns. I'm currently using Mellanox and may continue using them as long as their support remains solid, plus they're quite affordable on eBay. Anyone has advice on CPU or NIC selection? Any guidance would be appreciated.
