Hi everyone, comparing the Netgear AX8 and Asus RT AX88U is important. Your Netgear R8500 offers a strong choice with its LAN ports, though I’m not sure about the Wi-Fi range. Let me know if you need more details! Thanks in advance.

Your connection speed is quite slow; those routers seem excessive for what you're getting.

I bought the AX8 last week and had to return it since it didn’t match my old Netgear Orbi AC2200. I switched to the new Orbi AC 3000, which is amazing. Even though it wasn’t something you’d typically consider, unless you really need WiFi 6, it’s probably not worth the investment right now. For a two-story home, that’s a good reference point.

If your outdated router isn’t working, you could easily find a better alternative at a reasonable price, similar to a Netgear Nighthawk AC2600. It won’t cost a fortune unless you need faster internet speeds beyond 2Gbps.

Do you possess numerous gadgets supporting Ax technology with a need for minimal delay in multiple connections? The main benefit of Ax compared to AC lies in its upload capabilities—such as MU-MIMO and OFDMA. When it comes to Asus versus Netgear, Nergear is well-known for its strong firmware support.

very few devices have Ax right now but I’ll get there soon. I currently own three consoles and two PCs, everyone’s playing, so low latency would be perfect. Netgear has a reputation for good firmware, though my R8500 is from early 2019 and the latest one is from Jan 2019. On the other side, Asus seems active in that area, especially with the AX88U.

Gamingwise, the poor netgear firmware often causes sudden high latency;(while using Call of Duty MW, my ping will spike unpredictably past 200ms). To be clear, switching from AC to Ax doesn’t improve your wired connection. The main benefit of Ax88u over AC88u is a faster CPU and more RAM.

I notice another detail I didn't realize about Netgear firmware and the price differences between Ax88 and Ac88 right now. For 60 euros I could easily upgrade to a newer model, which might even be more advanced than what I have. I appreciate you sharing this information!

For excellent offers (ax88u) seize them now. But if you anticipate needing a 10GbE LAN connection later—like for multiple 4K streams or local uploads—consider ax89x. It features two 10GbE ports, one SFTP+ and one base-t.
