Uncertain whether this violates forum guidelines. If not, please address the concerns. I learned that an app named towelroot can root an NVIDIA Shield tablet. I’m unsure if it’s safe—won’t damage the device or interfere with its intended functions—and whether it would prevent OTA updates from NVIDIA. I really want to root my tablet but am worried about potential issues. Thanks for any advice!

I used a Shield tablet and rooted it using towel root, and it functioned as intended. If you're curious, the Xposed framework also worked smoothly for me without any issues.

Thank you for your message. Just a few quick points: Are NVIDIA OTA updates still available? And is the Xposed Framework required for your setup? Let me know!

Sorry for the delayed reply; I wasn't required to update because I already had the information. You can check Google for updates. You don't need the Xposed framework, but if you wish to tailor Android, look it up and search for details on how it functions. Let me know if you have more questions.

I initially installed the shield tablet with a towel root, and it functioned properly. Later, I received updates from Nvidia via OTA and applied them smoothly, which has been reliable for me.

Thank you for your follow-up questions. SuperSu is available on the Play Store, and it can indeed completely remove the root from your tablet. Regarding the ota updates, you mentioned applying the 1.1 update and then rooting. After using "make it rain," you should restart the device as usual. So far, none of these actions have caused the tablet to become permanently damaged by the 1.1 update. Appreciate your patience!

I didn’t have to restart; I’m not concerned with OTA updates, nor full unrooted, and I use SuperSu from the Play Store.
