I bought a ready-made ASUS ROG Strix G15C and swapped the motherboard with ASUS ROG STRIX Z590-E. Added CORSAIR iCUE H100i, then upgraded to Intel Core i7-11700K. My main storage is a 980 TB SSD in M.2_1, secondary is 970 EVO Plus 2 TB in M.2_2. I have 32GB RAM with XMP enabled and an Nvidia RTX 2070 Super. Everything felt fine before the i7-11700K upgrade; only the SSD placement changed. Now it runs slower after the 11th generation. Do you think there’s something obvious missing from this setup? I can provide more details if needed. I used the original power supply (750W) and believe it’s okay.

It appears you made a strategic shift without significant gains. The PSU remains adequate. It looks like you didn’t make a major jump.

I didn’t intend to suggest it would be quicker. I expected the PCIe 4.0 upgrade to stand out more. I’m dealing with big video files on my main storage and everything feels slower now compared to when I used the 10th generation. I don’t have measurable tests, but I’m sorry for that. I just wanted to know if there was something clear I overlooked. The power supply unit was a point of concern, and you addressed it—I value your input.

Honestly, it seems like just exchanging one chip for another without any real improvement.

The 980 SSD isn't a Pro model. It's a budget PCIe 3.0 drive without DRAM, while the 980 Pro offers faster PCIe 4.0 performance.

You performed a fresh setup of Windows following the replacement of the motherboard.

Changed the motherboard from B460 to Z590 completely. A fresh installation is advised. Why does PCI-e4.0 matter if your drives and GPU can't handle it?

He seemed unaware that the 980 equals 3.0.
